Eye Sight Enhancement Through Nutrition

The food you eat plays a big role in deciding how well you can see. The requirement of good micro-nutrients and phytochemicals should never be under-estimated. Sometimes, all you need to improve your vision is a change in your choice of foods - implementing more fruits and vegetables into your diet and perhaps the occasional supplement for those micronutrients that are scarce in the modern day environment.

Nutrition Basics for Healthy Vision

Upon embarking on a journey of better vision through natural methods, it helps to analyze what it is we are taking in in terms of food. What you need for good vision is natural foods that are not processed and generally grown in the soil. It is crucial to at least progressively transfer from the usual western diet of fast food, processed foods and diets high in meat, to a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables (organic if possible), whole grains, healthy fats and proteins and lots of pure water. You won’t just be improving your eye-sight with this, but you’ll also be preventing various forms of disease in your body that result for poor nutrition.

Supplement your diet with a good multi-vitamin to get the minerals and vitamins you may not get from your food. Our soil is greatly depleted of the minerals it once held. Therefore supplementation is more important than it was years ago. If you wish to avoid supplements however, then I highly advise you to consume sea vegetables. These gifts of nature contain some 10 to 20 times more nutrients than vegetation grown on land.

Incorporate anti-oxidants into your diet. All the evidence indicates that anti-oxidants promote better eyesight through a number of different mechanisms, including protection from free radicals. Your eyes will also benefit greatly from lutein for eyes.

If you’re having problems with your vision, go and see your eye doctor to get a diagnosis. Once you know what you have, look into the specific dietary recommendations for this particular condition and take it from there. Educating yourself in this way will lead to faster, quicker and better results overall.

As long as you don’t stare directly into the sun, getting out and about on a sunny day is also very helpful for your vision. Take some time off work or your studies to roam about in the sun for part of the day. Go cycling, running, jogging, playing football in the sun, or just go for a walk!

Eating for Good Nutrition Instead of for Comfort

We can sit here and talk all we like about what’s good for us, but there comes a point when you realize that it just aint easy changing what you eat. Eating food for comfort is the main reason we have poor nutrition. We are so tied in with all those bad foods we eat, that we get down and depressed as soon as we change to a healthy diet Sometimes all that is needed is a more awakened focus on what it is that we are doing when we are about to fill our stomachs. Ask yourself - is this something you need, or could you do with a healthier alternative.

Sometimes we feel a need for something to eat when we are actually dehydrated. So next time you feel hungry, try initially just drinking a glass of water to curb the hunger response. If however your hunger is triggered by emotional reasons, you may just need to do something mentally/physically engaging - like go out or read something.

Our eating habits begin very early in childhood. It amazes me to see a parent giving their child a sweet as a reward. We have always known that such foods are bad for us, but we went on consuming them. Despite making us happy in the short term, these foods in the long term would inevitably lead to much upset from being overweight and suffering from illness or poor eyesight. Despite your upbringing however, it is never too late to turn back the clock

Rather than completely avoiding all those foods you are used to in the outset, an excellent idea would be to simply supplement this bad food with a better variety. Have an apple and a glass of water before every meal, or a quarter of a head of romaine lettuce. This approach is usually far more successful than having a sudden and complete dietary revolution. The latter has been known to lead to withdrawal symptoms, which, in most cases, results in a complete relapse.
