Dieting To Better Your Eyesight

The food you eat plays a big role in deciding how well your vision functions. The eyes and brain contain millions of highly specialized cells, which have specific nutritional requirements. For this reason, one crucial step to improving your eyesight naturally involves sorting out your diet - taking out all the junk and replacing it with a healthy variety of natural whole foods.

Nutrition Basics for Healthy Vision

As we begin the process of improving our vision naturally, it is helpful to look closely at how we are nourishing ourselves. We need foods that are fresh, as close to the natural state as possible, and whose water content is high. It is important to go from the usual diet of processed grains, canned/bottled fizzy drinks and abundant fats, to a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables (organic if possible), whole grains, healthy fats and proteins and lots of pure water. Not only will this benefit your vision, but your entire body as well.

With some particular micronutrients, it’s a good idea to add in some supplements since they are hard to obtain from food. Taking supplements is advisable in many cases in the modern era, due to the deficiency not only in our diets, but also in the very soil in which healthy food is grown. Sea vegetables are also an excellent source of minerals.

One general goal for better vision is to consume food that’s rich in anti oxidants. Scientists have spent much time testing and deliberating over the benefits of antioxidants, and it’s been made quite clear that they are very beneficial to one’s vision.

The idea is to change your nutritional intake based on the exact form of eye disease you are suffering from. Consult with a nutritionist or doctor who specializes in healing with nutrition and detoxification.

As part of a lifestyle change, you should also seek to spend at least an hour outdoors each day. In the modern day we spend far too much time indoors where we are forced to only focus on nearby objects. Go cycling, running, jogging, playing football in the sun, or just go for a walk!

How To Change Your Eating Habits

The biggest hurdle to changing to a healhty diet is that we are just too comfortable with eating bad foods. Most of us eat for other reasons than simply to nourish our bodies. Because we are unsatisfied in our lives, we use nutrition to fill that void Sometimes all that is needed is a more awakened focus on what it is that we are doing when we are about to fill our stomachs. Before reaching out for that bag of potato chips, stop and visualize the type of damage it would do to your eyes and your body, then visualize what an alternative healthy option would do, and how it will improve your health and vision.

It is quite common for you to mistake hunger for dehydration. So next time you feel hungry, try initially just drinking a glass of water to curb the hunger response. People often see food as being a form of ‘break’ from work. Why not instead take up a hobby like playing the guitar, having a round on a punching bag for exercise, or reading a wonderful and engaging book.

The way we eat as adults was often shaped when we were young. It amazes me to see a parent giving their child a sweet as a reward. Even as children we perhaps knew that this stuff would do us harm. Now in my opinion the highs you get in the immediate sense from such foods is not worth the long term sequelae of poor health and deteriorating vision. As we learn how difficult it becomes to fix our own diets, it is time now to put an end to this - we must stop doing to our children what the previous generation did to us

Remembering to choose healthy foods usually works better than depriving ourselves of the foods we love. As your health starts to improve, you will soon find yourself naturally replacing those unhealthy foods with more nutritious varieties.
