Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir
Mayor of Reykjavík

Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir was born on October 12th 1966.  She was born and raised in Hafnarfjörður, a town in the municipal area of Reykjavík. She is the daughter of Aðalheiður J. Björnsdóttir and Kristján Ármannsson. Hanna Birna’s is married to husband, Vilhjálmur Jens Árnason and they have two daughters.

-M.Sc. in International and European Politics from Edinburgh University 1993.BA in Political Science from HÍ 1991.
-Certificate of Matriculation from Kvennaskólinn í Reykjavík 1986.
-Business College Degree from VÍ 1984.

-Mayor of Reykjavik since August 21st 2008.
-City Council Chairperson from January 24th 2008 – August 21st 2008.
-Chairperson of the Council for the City Planning Committee from 2006 – 2008.
-City Council Member for the Independence Party since 2002.
-Deputy Manager of the Independence Party from 1999 – 2006.
-Director of the Independence Party Parliamentary Group 1995 – 1999.
-Department Specialist in the Ministry of Education 1994 – 1995.
-Employee of the Commission on Safety 1990 – 1991.
